Myakka State Park - Key an eye on the gators!!!

May 7 - May 11

Super nice facilities in our loop for a state park,we had the trifecta - 50Amp, Water and Sewer - the spot are are new crushed gravel with plenty of privacy.  There are 2 other loops that have water and electric only and more shade, but the number of sites that will accept a 40 are few.
Our timing could not have been better, the weather was cool and dry, no rain, cool nights and low level of bugs (except for dusk).  When the sunsets be prepared for the skeeters with a bit of a fire and lots of DEET.
Though the alligator are as thick as the skeeters people kayak and canoe with abandon.  Powerboats are welcome but water skiing or boarding is not recommended.  There are a lot of great walking trails, make sure to do the Canopy Walk, and it is a great area for twitchers.
There are two gift shops, one with a good meal service (gator bites anyone?) and the staff is friendly and the service fast.  The even have a good selection of draft and bottled beer and even some shandys.
We rode bicycles everywhere, though the trails for bicycles are just underused roads and a bit buggy.

Go check it out and enjoy the wildlife.
